Director of Operations
Rich loves to combine his business and management skills with his passion for climbing each day. He grew up in the mountains of Northern California where he honed his skills as a skier, before taking up climbing while attending the University of Oregon. Having spent time as a marketer, both at an agency and a software start-up, Rich brings a creative eye and business savvy to BRG. An avid outdoorsman, Rich can be found climbing at Smith Rock State Park, floating on the Deschutes River, hiking in the Cascade Lakes area, or skiing in the backcountry.
Head Setter
Joey has been a routesetter, coach, and climbing gym employee for over a decade. Most recently, Joey has been spending a lot of time shaping holds and traveling around the country to set for youth and adult competitions. He is also heavily involved with USA Climbing, working as a Level 4 setter at Bouldering and Sport Youth Nationals, as well as chiefing local, Regional and Divisional events. If not at BRG, you can usually find Joey bouldering around the Northwest, out at Smith Rock, floating down the Deschutes, up in the mountains, shaping holds in his garage, drinking a beer at one of the local breweries, or at some live music... except for Phish... he doesn't like Phish 😉
Youth Programs Director
Jess has been with Bend Rock Gym for three years and is our Youth Programs Director! She graduated in 2013 from Southern Oregon University with a Bachelor of Science in Health Education. Jess has always had a love and passion for fitness and health. When Jess was 14, her mom became interested in climbing. Jess followed suit and immediately became hooked. Since then climbing has been an outlet and a continuous adventure for her. You will find Jess on multi pitches out at Smith, or on top of a mountain summit somewhere. Her favorite part about working at BRG is having the privilege to coach and mentor our youth in the Bend community.
Adult Program Coordinator
Ross hails from Portland, Oregon. He is a TRUE OREGONIAN! He moved to Bend for amazing climbing and to go to school here. He began climbing thanks to a strong sense of curiosity and the climbing wall at OSU. His short term climbing goal is to flash every 5.10 in the Lower Gorge. Long term he plans to climb a big wall, send a 5.12 trad line, and of course visit Spain! Ross’ favorite type of climbing is long traditional climbs and some of his favorite routes include Classic Crack and Red Eye at Broughton’s Bluff (Portland). His favorite part about working at Bend Rock Gym is interacting with everyone in the awesome Bend climbing community and most definitely working with all the kiddos, because he gets to act like one! Ross recommends checking out The Trad Climber’s Bible for anyone looking for some inspiration.
Assistant Front Desk Manager
Alex moved to Bend from Coeur d'Alene, Idaho to live closer to Smith Rock. His passion for climbing developed after climbing at Mount Rumney (New Hampshire). His favorite type of climbing is sport because he is able to push himself physically while still staying safe on exposed climbs. Alex’s favorite route of all time is the Southwest Arête in Bishop. His short term goal is to climb harder trad routes. His long term goal is to develop hard, exposed routes via aid climbing. Alex’s favorite part about working at BRG is the constant exposure he gets to climbing and climbers: “Watching someone or helping someone work a project and see them grow keeps me stoked to go out and push myself!”

Anna grew up in Guerneville, CA amongst the redwoods and rivers of the Sonoma Coast. She recently traded one beautiful place for another and relocated to Bend in the fall to be closer to world class climbing at Smith and everything else Bend has to offer, including snowboarding, hiking, and delicious brew. Anna started climbing two years ago and it very quickly became her main hobby. Her long term goals in climbing are to learn trad and to take advantage of the Cascades in our backyard and perhaps have a go at mountaineering. Short term, she'd like to climb at Smith as much as possible and also finish development on her property, which will definitely include a training wall. Anna is super excited to be part of the BRG team and grateful to be welcomed into the Bend climbing and outdoor community.

Rayna has recently joined us from Ashland for the non-stop sunshine, high desert air, and “climbing with the bestie”. She got into climbing as a child scrambling around Joshua Tree, later joining a rag-tag climbing team in high school where climbing became a part of her life for good. Her short-term goals include improving her lead head and becoming more comfortable taking whips. Her long term goal is to get out and explore other crags across the country and around the world. Rayna’s favorite part of working at BRG is being surrounding by so many passionate, motivated, and helpful individuals. Her favorite quote relating to outdoor adventures is by Mark Twight (American alpinist): “It doesn’t have to be fun to be fun.”

Corey grew up in Colorado in the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Her love of nature and contempt of standardized testing sent her to Colorado Mountain College to get her degree in Outdoor Education. Since graduating, Corey has spent her time traveling the world, getting her feet wet in every activity she can think of. From canyoneering, to climbing, to canoeing, Corey loves it all. She first made her way to Bend in 2015 for the snow and, after a short stint abroad, has come back for the sun (and beer)!
